Code of Conduct
PURPOSE
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to ensure, maintain and encourage a safe and positive environment within FilCanTri by making Members aware there are minimum expectations that should be met at all times. This includes appropriate behaviour consistent with the values of FilCanTri which include respect, excellence, and integrity.
Further, FilCanTri fully supports equal opportunity for all Members and is committed to providing an environment wherein all individuals are treated with respect.
Conduct that violates this Code may be subject to sanctions pursuant to the Board’s disciplinary discretion.
APPLICATION OF THE CODE
This Code applies to Member’s conduct during FilCanTri activities and events including, but not limited to, competitions, practices, training camps, volunteering and any meetings.
This Code may also apply to Member’s conduct outside of FilCanTri’s business, activities, and events when such conduct adversely affects relationships within the Team and/or its members (and its work and sport environment) and is detrimental to the image and reputation of FilCanTri.
Such infractions will be determined by FilCanTri’s Board at its sole discretion.
INDIVIDUALS
Members have a responsibility to:
- Maintain and enhance the dignity and self-esteem of all FilCanTri members by:
- Demonstrating respect to all members regardless of body type, physical characteristics, athletic ability, gender, ancestry, colour, ethnic or racial origin, nationality, sexual orientation, age, marital status, religious belief, political belief, disability, or economic status.
- Ensuring comments or criticism are appropriate and avoiding public criticism of athletes, coaches, officials, organizers, volunteers, or members.
- Consistently demonstrating the spirit of sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
- Consistently treating individuals fairly and reasonably.
- Ensuring adherence to the rules of Triathlon and the spirit of those rules.
- Maintain and enhance the dignity and self-esteem of all FilCanTri members by:
- Refrain from any behaviour that may be construed as harassment. Harassment is defined as any comment or conduct directed towards an individual or group, which is offensive, abusive, racist, sexist, degrading, or malicious. Types of behaviour that constitute harassment include, but are not limited to:
- Verbal or written abuse, threats, or outburst.
- Display of visual material which is offensive in any circumstance.
- Unwelcome and untimely remarks, jokes, comments, innuendo, or taunts.
- Any form of bullying, leering or other suggestive or obscene gestures.
- Condescending or patronizing behaviour which is intended to undermine self esteem and/or diminish performance.
- Practical jokes which cause embarrassment, endanger a member’s safety, or negatively affect performance.
- Unwanted physical contact including, but not limited to, touching, petting, pinching, or kissing.
- Unwelcome sexual flirtations, advances, requests, or invitations.
- Physical or sexual assault.
- Retaliation or threats of retaliation against an individual who reports harassment to the Board of FilCanTri.
- Refrain from any behaviour that may be construed as harassment. Harassment is defined as any comment or conduct directed towards an individual or group, which is offensive, abusive, racist, sexist, degrading, or malicious. Types of behaviour that constitute harassment include, but are not limited to:
- Refrain from any form of behaviour that constitutes sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual comments and sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, or conduct of a sexual nature. Types of behaviour that constitute sexual harassment include, but are not limited to:
- Sexist jokes
- Display of sexually offensive material
- Sexually degrading words used to describe a person
- Inquiries or comments about a person’s sex life
- Unwelcome sexual flirtations, advances, or propositions
- Persistent unwanted contact
- Cheating, in any form, is absolutely not tolerated.
- Course cutting
- Muling, or having another individual run a course (or any portion of the course) for a competing athlete.
- Banditing, or running an official race without a registered, bib is strongly discouraged. This creates a negative impression of the team, particularly when our heritage is evident.
- Respect the property of all Members and do no willful damage to other members’ properties.
- Adhere to all federal, provincial, municipal and host country laws.
- Refrain from any form of behaviour that constitutes sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual comments and sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, or conduct of a sexual nature. Types of behaviour that constitute sexual harassment include, but are not limited to:
BOARD MEMBERS
The Board members of FilCanTri are expected to carry out its duties with full adherence to the following.
- Act with honesty and integrity and conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the nature and responsibilities of FilCanTri’s activities and the maintenance of Member confidence.
- Ensure that FilCanTri’s financial affairs are conducted in a responsible manner with due regard for all fiduciary responsibilities.
- Conduct themselves professionally and in good faith in the best interests of FilCanTri
- Be independent and impartial and not be influenced by self-interest, outside pressure, expectation of reward, or fear of criticism.
- Behave with maturity appropriate to both circumstance and position and be fair, considerate, and honest in all dealings with each other and all members.
- Respect the confidentiality appropriate to issues of a sensitive and personal nature.
- Ensure that all Members are given sufficient and equal opportunity to express opinions, and that all opinions are given due consideration and weight.
- Respect the decision of the majority.
- Commit the time to attend meetings and be diligent in preparation for, and participation in, discussions at such meetings.
